Christian Ott, Trainer - Manual Brew Methods

My path into the land of coffee has been an unexpected one. I was the guy in high school who applied to all the local coffee shops (I come from a relatively small town), but was probably too nerdy to be working there. I spent five years pursuing a double major at university in vocal music and humanities with the goal of becoming an opera singer. After deciding that life was not for me (there is a good story behind that one), I decided that I wanted to teach philosophy for a living and pursued a master’s degree here in Milwaukee. It was there that I got my first taste of working in the coffee industry. Now, it is not the most glamorous gig – working in a coffee shop at school – but it got me some hands on experience (and I was finally able to work with coffee). Only a few months later, I got a job at Stone Creek Coffee – Bay View working as a barista. I eventually gave up the college life for the coffee life – and haven't really taken the time to look back. I have grown into several different roles during the three years I have been working here: from Lead Staff to Certified Cupping Leader to Manager of the Bay View store. I am now excited to be taking on the role of Head Barista specializing in Brew Methods.

Brewing to perfection is a value that I hold very close. It is taking something that most of us drink everyday – that morning cup of coffee – and demanding the most out of the beans that you have. One can do that by demanding the same precision that craft beer and wine makers take to hone in flavor notes and ratios of ingredients that yield them such amazing products. Except, it takes a whole lot less effort on your part – just a small brewing method of your choice and a grinder – and in about the same amount of time as your brewer, you can get a lot better cup of coffee. I will be making it my mission to get you all this information and help you get the most out of your Stone Creek Coffee. If you ever have a question about brewing or coffee or anything, do not hesitate to contact me – I am always one to geek out to coffee related stuff. Need help figuring out how to do a press or pour-over – let me know – I will help you out. Sip Slowly and Brew Expertly!
